Under the pressure of intense christian lobbying, the Supreme Court of the United States of America has just announced that it no longer considers the right to abortion as a constitutional right (CNN). Concretely, this decision will allow the various states to prohibit any form of abortion whatever the reason and the circumstances, including rape and serious health problems. The country is sent fifty years back to the situation in force before the emblematic “Roe v. Wade” judgment from 1973, when each state was free to authorize abortion or not. Conservative christian Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has announced his firm intention to go further and challenge the right to contraception and the legality of same-sex unions (source).
Christian supremacism is not being challenged globally by either of the two dominant political forces in the United States and the West, namely the conservatives and the left. Most historic abortion rights organizations still refuse to address the issue of political christianity clearly. Thus, in its various press releases, the American Planned Parenthood has a clear tendency not to name the christian lobby and replaces it with the term “white supremacy”, even though a growing number of anti-abortion activists come from Afro-American and Latin American communities, and that many christian anti-abortion activists are powered by strong antiracism, going so far as to qualify abortion as a “black genocide”. Moreover, conservative anti-abortion christians don’t hesitate to work hand in hand with muslim and christian countries such as Pakistan, Uganda, Egypt and Sudan, as Donald Trump did at the end of his mandate.
Women today are paying the price for bourgeois unanimity around the preservation of christian interests, both on the left and among the conservatives.
